Know the tank gauging system

Tank Gauging System

The level measurement system is a combination of a traditional tank measurement system and a tank hydrostatic gauge. The hybrid sensor system is widely used in the petroleum industry, where online measurement of level, density and temperature is required. To a system that measures and records the density, temperature, surface area, mass, modified mass and residual level of the tank bottom with acceptable accuracy and provides information to the control system at any time and displays it to a or more users It’s called a tank gauging system. Tank measuring systems from two famous brands Endress & Hauser and Rosemount are both famous in this industry. The Taban Control Daghigh company, which has experience in the design and implementation of several projects of tank gauges and tank inventory systems with the brands Endress+Hauser, Rosemount, MOTHERWELL in various industries of the country, declared its readiness to implement the project.

Design of a hybrid system

To measure the volume of water in the tank, pressure gauges are placed in the tank. So, if the tank is at atmospheric pressure, there is one pressure sensor in the tank and two pressure sensors if the tank is not dry. The zone-matched pressure measurement provides a true measurement of the average density over the entire surface of the product. A typical HTMS system consists of a radar or servo gauge and a hydrostatic pressure gauge that measures the overpressure of the liquid product column in the tank. For tanks that do not have gas or vapor pressure in the empty part of the tank, for example if the tank is not connected to the air, it is necessary to add an additional expansion.

Tank Gauging System

This system is a set of measuring devices that measure everything that affects the water level, compensate for all the effects of these things, and then calculate the mass and volume of a tank or set of tanks. The main purpose of using this mechanism is to determine the exact amount of liquid inside the tank and prevent damage caused by overfilling or emptying the tank. Tank metering systems are often used for very expensive liquids such as hydrocarbons, crude oil or gas condensate.

Tank metering system components

Components of the tank gauging system include the following parts:

  1. Radar or servo transmitter to measure the correct fluid level inside the tank
  2. Average temperature transmitter for measuring the temperature at different tank heights and calculating the average liquid temperature
  3. Position indicators are mounted on the side and bottom of the tank, allowing the operator to take important measurements of the tank without lifting the tank.
  4. A pressure transmitter used to measure the level of liquid in a tank.
  5. The calculator and compensation unit are responsible for gathering information about the reservoir and performing calculations to convert volume to accurate mass.
  6. A signal acquisition device is able to receive the digital output from a site and decode all the information received and use it for control systems.
